2-isopropyl-2-isopentyl-1,3-propanediol dimethyl ether (2-Isopropyl-2-isopentyl-1,3-dimethoxypropane)

is a high-performance internal electron donor used in modern MgCl₂-supported TiCl₄ Ziegler-Natta (ZN) catalysts

for polypropylene synthesis.

Role in Ziegler–Natta Catalysts:

1. Stereoselectivity Control: Coordinates with the MgCl₂/TiCl₄ catalyst core to create highly stereospecific active sites, significantly

enhancing isotactic PP content (>98%). This reduces atactic polymer byproduct and improves product rigidity.

2. Active Site Templating:Its branched asymmetric structure (isopropyl + isopentyl groups) selectively stabilizes specific

crystalline faces of MgCl₂, promoting the formation of Ti active sites with optimal stereochemical control.

3. Hydrogen Response Modulator:Fine-tunes the catalyst’s sensitivity to hydrogen (molecular weight regulator),

enabling precise control over PP melt flow rates (MFR).

4. Performance Synergy:Works efficiently with external donors
