Product Description

Properties
Chemical Structure

Tris-(2-Ethylhexyl)amine (TEHA) is a tertiary amine with the molecular formula C₂₄H₅₁N and a molecular weight

of approximately 353.6 g/mol.

Physical State

Tris-(2-Ethylhexyl)amine (TEHA) is Clear, viscous liquid at room temperature.

Solubility

 Tris-(2-Ethylhexyl)amine(cas#1860-26-0),Insoluble in water due to hydrophobic alkyl chains;

miscible with organic solvents

Basicity

Tris-(2-Ethylhexyl)amine (TEHA) boiling point ,High (estimated >300°C), reflecting its large molecular size.

Weak base due to the steric hindrance of the bulky alkyl groups.

Extraction Capability

Tris-(2-Ethylhexyl)amine (TEHA) is Used in solvent extraction processes for recovering metals

like uranium, vanadium, and rare earth elements. Acts as a liquid ion exchanger by forming complexes with

anionic metal species in acidic solutions.

Stability

Tris-(2-Ethylhexyl)amine (TEHA)  ,Chemically stable under standard conditions but may degrade

under strong acids or oxidizers.

Applications
Metal Extraction and Separation

Tris-(2-Ethylhexyl)amine (TEHA) normally is applied in hydrometallurgy and nuclear fuel reprocessing.

 Chemical Synthesis:
  • Intermediate in producing quaternary ammonium compounds (e.g., surfactants, corrosion inhibitors).
  • Potential catalyst in organic reactions (e.g., polyurethane foam production).
♦  Acid Purification:

Tris(2-ethylhexyl)amine  facilitates the removal or separation of acidic compounds via complexation

Product Process

TEHA is synthesized through alkylation of ammonia with 2-ethylhexyl halides (e.g., chloride or bromide):

 Reaction

  • Excess alkyl halide ensures complete substitution to the tertiary amine.
  • Conducted under heat (reflux) with a base (e.g., NaOH) to neutralize HX byproducts.
♦  Purification:
  • Distillation removes unreacted reagents and byproducts.
  • Solvents may be used to enhance reaction efficiency.
 Quality Control:

Verified via chromatography (GC/HPLC) or spectroscopic methods (NMR).

Drying and Packaging

Once the Tris(2-ethylhexyl)amine  product is obtained and purified, it is typically dried to remove any residual moisture.

The dried TEHA is then packaged in suitable containers, ensuring proper sealing to maintain its quality. Adequate

labeling and storage conditions are maintained to ensure safe handling and storage of the product.

Inspection
Inspection process

• Incoming inspection: The main raw materials, are inspected for their content, appearance and other

main properties.

• Feeding inspection: the principle of raw material feeding is first-in-first-out, and the appearance of the

main raw materials is randomly inspected according to whether there is a big change in the storage

conditions before feeding.

• Batch sampling in the production process: During the production process, the main indexes of each batch

of products: content and acid value will be examined three times in different time periods.

• Storage Inspection: Each batch (4tons) is inspected before storage.

• Outbound inspection: According to the quantity demanded by customers, the products will be sampled

and inspected.

• Pre-shipment inspection: according to customer’s requirement, third party inspection can be carried

out on the products before shipment.

Inspection Method

• Physical Appearance: Visual inspection

• Purity Analysis:Gas chromatography (GC)

• Acid Value:Potentiometric titration

• Water Content:Moisture analyzers

• Refractive Index:Refractometer

• Density:Density meter
